Chrys and Morin, you hear a knock at the door.

CHRYS (LILY) 0:03

Interesting. I don't get- I don't get- I usually don't get more than one person in one day. 

MORIN (ASPEN) 0:11

You weren't expecting anyone? 

CHRYS (LILY) 0:12

No. I… I don't usually. Um, people just come to me on their own.

MORIN (ASPEN) 0:18

I will stand behind the door, and I will stand very still behind the door. Unless.

CHRYS (LILY) 0:26

Right. If, if that makes you happy, um sure. And Chrys is going to open the door. 

NARRATOR (RAY) 0:35

You see Orion. 

CHRYS (LILY) 0:40

Oh, hello there. How can I help you?

ORION (PORTER) 0:42

Whoa. Um. Oh. Hello. Um, I'm so sorry for barging in like this. Uh didn't mean to just interrupt or anything.

CHRYS (LILY) 0:56

Oh, it is alright. I don't mind visitors.

ORION (PORTER) 1:01

Hmm. Uh do you happen to have like a… like a map of the area? Or like… We're trying to find our way out of here, you know, and the faster the better.

CHRYS (LILY) 1:14

I know the way around myself pretty well.

ORION (PORTER) 1:20

Really? That is… that is quite something. You live here?

CHRYS (LILY) 1:26

Yes! This is my little house.

ORION (PORTER) 1:29

Huh. Okay. And by any chance anybody else living here with you? I just thought I'd heard somebody else.

CHRYS (LILY) 1:37

Oh, I have a visitor right now. Um…

ORION (PORTER) 1:39

Cool, cool. Um you know, just could I meet your visitor real quick, just to pop by, say hi, and then we'll be on our way, you know.

CHRYS (LILY) 1:51

Morin, do you mind if I invite our other guest in? 

MORIN (ASPEN) 1:57

Yeah, I mean, you told him my name. 

CHRYS (LILY) 2:01

Oh, was I not supposed to?

MORIN (ASPEN) 2:02

No, no, you know what? You did great. You sound urgent. Is someone after you?

ORION (PORTER) 2:10

Kinda got the Brigs on our ass, so like… kind of important that we get out of here.

MORIN (ASPEN) 2:18

You brought the Brigs down here??

ORION (PORTER) 2:20

I mean, it was supposed to be empty. Ah, we were gonna lose them, I think, in the tunnels.

CHRYS (LILY) 2:27

So you are in danger then?

ORION (PORTER) 2:30

You could say that, yeah. Um… so-

MORIN (ASPEN) 2:32

Okay, yes, uh, we can, we can do that. I can, I can help you guys out of here. I know some, I know some places. Can we… if the Brigs are coming, can we do that later?

ORION (PORTER) 2:44

Ah yeah, sure.

NARRATOR (RAY) 2:46

What are the folks in the hallway doing?

VALENTINE (MARILYN) 2:49

Uh, planning Orion's funeral?

[ALL LAUGHING]

ROOK (VICTOR) 2:53

Actually, about, it's probably at about this point that Rook probably walks up to like, near the entryway and is just like, “Hey. Biceps. Are you dead yet?”

ORION (PORTER) 3:07

No, no, there's uh actually a couple people in here. They’re friendly, they’re friendly! 

ROOK (VICTOR) 3:10

Oh, okay. Waves over Valentine and our unfortunate guest.

VALENTINE (MARILYN) 3:17

He's still alive.

ORION (PORTER) 3:20

‘Bout alive as I can be.

VALENTINE (MARILYN) 3:22

Excellent.

CHRYS (LILY) 3:23

Chrys is going to say, “Um, yes, come on in, you three.”

ROOK (VICTOR) 3:29

Do you, do you live down here?

CHRYS (LILY) 3:31

Yes.

ROOK (VICTOR) 3:33

Quite pleasant. 

CHRYS (LILY) 3:34

It is my little home.

ROOK (VICTOR) 3:35

Huh.

ATERIA (RAY) 3:37

Alright, well, are we, uh, are we staying here? Are we moving? Uh, what's, what's the plan? We’ve got fuzz on our tail.

CHRYS (LILY) 3:42

I was told you all needed directions… and I can help.

ORION (PORTER) 3:48

That'd be great.

VALENTINE (MARILYN) 3:50

Absolutely. Unless… is this place hidden? Are the Brigs gonna come here? We could pay you for a night.

CHRYS (LILY) 4:03

Oh, um, that is alright. Uh, if you need to sleep here, I, well, I am more than happy to let you sleep here.

VALENTINE (MARILYN) 4:16

That might be a good solution. We've got a little bit of time.

ROOK (VICTOR) 4:22

Yeah, I'll say.

ATERIA (RAY) 4:25

Then I guess we should shut that door then, you know? Kinda out into the hallway, this light…

ROOK (VICTOR) 4:32

Gonna walk up and shut the door. Also, real quick, so sorry. Um, you are being kind enough to host us. Uh, what's your name?

CHRYS (LILY) 4:42

I, I call myself Chrys.

ROOK (VICTOR) 4:45

Chrys, great to meet you. Rook. Um, are you dead?

CHRYS (LILY) 4:51

Um, not at the moment. I believe. I might have been at some point. I am not sure.

ROOK (VICTOR) 5:02

Okay, ‘cause it's not often I find someone who looks deader than I do. So you know, um, had to ask.

CHRYS (LILY) 5:11

I see. I, I do not believe at this current moment I am dead, so... I look strange. I am sorry.

ROOK (VICTOR) 5:25

Why are you apologizing, I look strange too. Most people are actively making a grimace when they see me. If anything, you're one of the most polite fellows I've ever met.

CHRYS (LILY) 5:34

Well, that is terrible.

VALENTINE (MARILYN) 5:37

Rook, do you think they're grimacing at you because of your face or because of all the questions you're asking?

ROOK (VICTOR) 5:42

Oh no, that happens with folks even before the questioning, I will assure you. I haven't actually been doing the questioning for all that long.

CHRYS (LILY) 5:51

What, what are your names? 

VALENTINE (MARILYN) 5:55

Valentine.

CHRYS (LILY) 5:57

That is a beautiful name.

ATERIA (RAY) 6:00

A-Ateria…

CHRYS (LILY) 6:02

Are you a Floater? In the corner there? 

MORIN (ASPEN) 6:13

Maybe. What's it to you? 

VALENTINE (MARILYN) 6:17

Oh, it's just serendipitous. We were just saying we needed a floater for a job.

ROOK (VICTOR) 6:22

Utter convenience in and of itself.

MORIN (ASPEN) 6:25

A job? What kind of job? 

VALENTINE (MARILYN) 6:30

A floating job that pays chips. 

MORIN (ASPEN) 6:36

I'm in. 

VALENTINE (MARILYN) 6:39

Excellent news.

ROOK (VICTOR) 6:40

Fantastic. You- it's amazing how quickly things go when someone is just cooperative.

MORIN (ASPEN) 6:48

Less cooperative, more easily bought.

ROOK (VICTOR) 6:51

Well, I wish more people would follow suit. I really do.

CHRYS (LILY) 6:56

You all look very tired. Can I make you some tea? 

MORIN (ASPEN) 7:02

It is very good.

ORION (PORTER) 7:06

I suppose we’ve got nothin’ but time, so… Some tea would be lovely, Chrys. Wait, what do you make it out, what do you make it out of down here anyways?

CHRYS (LILY) 7:13

Oh, well, I culture mushrooms and I've learned how to make tea out of them, and I think I have gotten decent at making them taste good. I like to offer it to guests that come over.

ORION (PORTER) 7:26

Fascinating.

NARRATOR (RAY) 7:28

Alright. And as Chrys busies themself making tea for everyone, pulling out more cups than Chrys is used to using all at once, but-

CHRYS (LILY) 7:40

I don't think I've ever had this many guests in one moment!

NARRATOR (RAY) 7:44

Yeah, in fact, maybe one of the cups is like an old bowl because you're running out of like proper teacups that you've salvaged from down below. Pouring each person a cup of tea, sort of everyone sitting quietly holding out here for the rest of the night. We sort of fade away as the sound and rumble of the engines matches with the boots of searching Brigs, matches with the sound of the city flowing through an open sea, and with the sound of all that sort of thrumming away around you, you're cradled off into a night of rest.
